Look out for new editions of "The Kirkwood Quack" in future issues of TKC .
FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK
T
his issue is special because it was our first "normal" cycle during the school year in over a year. We returned to our usual three instead of a four week cycle. Online editing switched back to paper and pencil, with editors coming to the South Journalism conference room to edit copy during lunch. This year, since we have been back in-person, KHS's dress code policy has been a recent topic of controversy. TKC staff chose the topic for Call Ed, our staff editorial, to address the dress code. Through our staff discussion we determined reasons that our dress code policy is outdated. The inspiration for my story, "In the same boat," came when I heard about a senior girl who will row for a NCAA Division I team. I wanted to shine light on a sport not many know about. Before the interview, I thought rowing was an upper body, late-start sport that is a way to get good scholarships. By the end of reporting, I found out that it is actually a full body workout and very challenging. Journalism is an opportunity to expand our knowledge. I'm thankful for the opportunity to learn about a sport some of my peers love and that is so close to home. From dress codes, to worker shortages, to Drake's new album and a rowing team, I hope you learn something too in this issue.
